American female gymnasts have dominated the floor exercise at the Olympics the last dozen years.
U.S. women have won floor exercise gold the last three Olympic Games, most recently Jade Carey in Tokyo in 2021, preceded by Simone Biles in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Aly Raisman in London in 2012.
Team USA has a chance to make it four consecutive gold medals in a row. Carey, the reigning Olympic floor exercise champion, will represent the U.S. at the 2024 Paris Olympics, in addition to Biles, the reigning floor exercise world champion. Biles narrowly edged out Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade for gold in floor at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, which marked Biles’ first major international competition since withdrawing from several events at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to “the twisties.”

The last female gymnast to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the floor exercise was the Soviet Union’s Larisa Latynina (1956 Melbourne, 1960 Rome, 1964 Tokyo). Latynina and Ágnes Keleti of Hungary (1952 Helsinki, 1956 Melbourne) are the only female gymnasts to win multiple Olympic gold medals in floor exercise.
